Other than the lettuce beds (all grown from seed) most of our plants are grown by our local CSA, which delivered on their plant sale this week-end. It has taken Pop Pop the last five days to get all the plants in the ground. Good for future salads, not so hot for the back.
In addition to the more conventional doors, there will also be two sliding "barn doors" facing the road. On the front view, you can see the finished tin work on the left, no "ridge" cover yet on the right.
In addition, progress was made on the board and batten on the front wall of the barn.
And finally, the stone masons are working on the wall to the courtyard.
In the morning, De De and Pop Pop went to Rolling Rock Building Stone - a quarry about an hour north of here. There we picked out the stone for the pool patio and the coping - a blend of Terra and Sapphire quartzite. We think this will blend well with the PA field stone on the barn walls.
Pictures of the finished roof and the start of the siding (the board of a "board and batten" siding) round out today's activity. The builders pre-paint the siding by dripping it in a vat of paint so that any separation after installation will not reveal unpainted wood. A final coat of paint will go on after the install is complete.
We're moving!
A couple of the roofers/carpenters look like wrestlers from Manheim Township, or at Franklin and Marshall College (maybe 165 pound class). De De requested a pose - she still likes the wrestler look.
Beautiful day - 74 and sunny.
We also reviewed with the builder ideas for finishing the first floor, the walls and fences around the barn, and lighting options. Lots of decisions to tumble down in the next month or two.
We were fortunate - the cherry blossoms were not all knocked off by the rain. It is not often we have the blossoms and daffodils at the same time.
Spring has sprung!
The last picture is from out front, by our little stream. This is the best this tree has looked since we planted it almost 25 years ago.
No matter how hard we work, we're not going to match these spring "bursting" days.
The excavators are also here - putting the storm water management intake box (all 5,000 pounds of it) in place.
Good day today - Monday may see rain. It comes, it goes. As you might surmise from the pictures, it gets pretty gooey and messy if it rains hard.
When the weather is sunny - things move quickly.
On another front, the process of spraying on insulation started. Here is a picture of the framework prior to insulation, and then two views of one of the sides being sprayed.
We are off for a few days minding some of the grandchildren, so it will be interesting to see what has changed when we return.
Not sure what tomorrow brings, but perhaps more "filling in" around the barn exterior. We still have large piles of dirt waiting to be moved to their ultimate site.
The stones you see are one large dumptruck load of stone. We'll need 5 truckloads before they can "cover" the stone base with the black tarp, and then fill in the rest of the way with about 3/4 of the dirt they removed from the hole. The best news - once covered and planted with grass, we'll likely never know it is there.
